There are several common reasons why a gas hob cannot ignite or takes a long time to ignite. Proper troubleshooting should be carried out step by step to identify the root cause and ensure safe and efficient operation.
(1) No gas supply or low gas flow
If your gas hob will not ignite at all, the first and most basic check is to ensure that you have an adequate gas supply. Make sure that the gas cylinder valve is fully opened and there is enough gas in the cylinder. Also, ensure that the gas regulator is functioning well. You should also check the flexible gas hose for any bending, twisting, crushing or blockage as any obstruction in the gas pathway will prevent gas from reaching the burner. Proper ignition requires a steady and continuous flow of gas.
(2) Spark electrode damaged, dirty, or incorrectly positioned
The ignition spark is generated by one of the main parts called the spark electrode. If it is damaged, contaminated with grease or food residue, or is out of proper position, ignition performance will be affected or delayed. During normal operation the spark electrode should produce a strong, consistent spark which will readily ignite the gas/air mixture. If the electrode surface is dirty, it should be carefully cleaned to remove any carbon deposits or oil build-up. If not aligned, position it so that the distance between the spark pin and burner flame hole is about 3.5-5mm. If the gap is too large or small, the ignition may be weak, unstable or may not even occur.
(3) Other possible factors
In addition to the above two main reasons, ignition problems can also happen due to low battery power in battery operated ignition systems, moisture in the burner area or clogged burner ports. Blocked burner holes can lead to incorrect gas flow and mixing, causing delayed or uneven ignition. It is recommended that the burner head be cleaned and maintained regularly for best performance.
At CHEFF, we are committed to stable and reliable ignition performance for all of our gas hob products. Each ignition system is thoroughly tested prior to shipping to ensure fast and consistent sparking. The design allows for efficient mixing of gas and air and for correct placement of electrodes to ensure easy ignition in normal operation. If a gas hob is installed properly, used properly and maintained properly it should ignite quickly and safely. If you still have the problem after checking the above factors, we recommend you to contact technical support for further check and professional help.
